What brings me joy?

My name is Janella Street, I am a Clinical and Forensic Psychologist. I’ve called the Bay Area home for over 25 years. I decided to earn my doctorate after working as a group counselor in juvenile hall. I use a range of therapeutic interventions. However, I find the tools offered by CBT, ACT, and Solution Focused are very effective in helping people move forward. I specialize in providing mental health services and psychological evaluations for individuals involved with Family Court. I gain a strong sense of purpose when I help families gain new perspectives and focus on their children while going through a difficult separation.

What brings me joy?
Water and laughter. I love spending time near and in the water. I also love to laugh, so even the corniest jokes will crake me up.

Jaima Owen, MFT
MFT Intern & Doula

My name is Jaima and I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist. I was born and raised in the Bay Area and attended schools in the West Contra Costa Unified School District. I chose to earn my masters in clinical psychology after years of working with children and families as a teacher in the Bay Area. I now love working with children, families and leading groups and I use a range of theoretical approaches. I’ve found that evidence-based techniques such as mindfulness and cognitive behavioral therapy help children and families to reach their highest potential. As a therapist I am always learning something new and gain a sense of connectedness with the community.

What brings me joy?

Along with being a therapist I have been a birth worker for a number of years. Being a doula, paired with exercise and traveling with my family bring me great joy!

Danielle Kolen, Psy.D.
Psychological Assistant

My name is Danielle Kolen aka Dr. Dannie, and I am a Registered Psychological Assistant. I was born and raised in Oakland, CA and I am a proud native. I decided to have a career in Psychology providing therapy in 2014, but I’ve been working in the helping and human service field since 2008. I am flexible with my use of therapeutic models, and my integrated approach includes the use of CBT, DBT, CPT, and Solution Focused therapy. However, my preferred foundational therapeutic orientation is to work from a Psychodynamic/Relational approach because I believe that in order to truly understand a person’s whole self & their presenting issues, it’s essential to explore their past experiences and various relationship dynamics. I have years of experience working with children, teens, and adults with various backgrounds and mental health diagnoses, more notably those who present with a history of trauma. The most rewarding thing I get out of helping people is leading them to discover and or improve their own personal insight, awareness, courage, and understanding of themselves. Additionally, I enjoy helping people discover the possibility of change, and positive aspects that can come from it.

What brings me joy?
Engaging in things that ground me such as spending time with loved ones, listening to music, cooking plant-based meals, and anything else I can do to enhance my practice of self-care and self-love.

Ashley DeStefano, Psy.D.

What brings me joy?
Spending time with my family, traveling and being in nature.

Mounir Tyler, LCSW
Clinical Social Worker/Certified Anger Management Specialist

Hi, my name is Mounir Tyler, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I’ve called the Bay Area home for over 30 years. My career has focused on serving the underserved, in particular communities of color, for a variety of non-profit organizations. I became a therapist after working with foster care youth and identifying with clients experiencing severe trauma. While working in a variety of social service settings, I recognized there was a gap, with very few licensed clinicians of color, in particular black males. Within my practice, I incorporate traditional therapeutic interventions such as CBT, while always coming from a trauma-informed approach. I am certified in anger management and provide a variety of services including mindfulness techniques, motivational interviewing, co-parenting, and individual and family therapeutic services. From each client I work with, I gain valuable insight on how resilient they are which keeps me motivated to support them in reaching their wellness goals.

What brings me joy?
I am a sports enthusiast. I love music, traveling, and laughing with family and friends.

I am eclectic in my approach but I find mostly that genuine curiosity and empathetic listening go a long way to facilitate growth and positive change. I specialize in providing therapy to young adults and I treat depression, anxiety, PTSD and phase of life problems. I also enjoy working with parents who are committed to learning effective co-parenting skills and couples who are seeking further intimacy . Dean Jones, LCSW
Clinical Social Worker/EMDR Consultant

I am a Bay Area native. The Bay Area is where I mostly grew up and attended college, SF State University. I began my journey in the mental health profession nearly twenty years ago. Prior to that I worked for over twenty years in the tech field. My journey in the healing profession started nearly twenty years ago in San Francisco where I worked  for community based programs, engaging  families, child and adolescent in mental health. I’ve worked in school-based setting, foster care, county adult  services with severely and persistently mental ill as well as in juvenile detention. I was trained in Trauma Therapy, EMDR, in 2014. I became EMDRIA Certified in 2016 and then an EMDRIA Approved Consultant in 2021. I have used EMDR to treat a wide range of emotional and traumatic life experiences from physical and sexual abuse to treating children that are emotionally affected by the un/expected divorce of their parents.  My approach is integrative. This means that I may use multiple approaches throughout the therapeutic process. Depending on any given moment, issue or obstacle(s), different techniques are used to move the healing process forward gently, patiently and safely. Regardless of theory or technique, the client-therapist relation is the foundation of what I do. This process is organically collaborative.  I find this therapeutic approach often allows for moving through the process of healing, in most cases faster than with traditional forms for therapy. My therapeutic perspective is not what’s wrong with you, but what happened to you.

Naomi Johnson,
Associate Clinical Social Worker

My name is Naomi Johnson, and I am an Associate Clinical Social Worker who is progressing towards full licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I was born in the Bay Area, but grew up on the east coast. I am so happy to have landed back here in the place that truly feels like home.

I began my clinical journey after observing how inaccessible and stigmatized therapy often is for my community. Since then, I have been driven to expand access and destigmatize therapy outside of the therapy space, especially for Black people and other communities of color, queer and trans individuals, and other marginaized populations. In the therapy space, I use an integrated approach that is collaboratively customized for the individual at hand. My approach pulls from psychodynamic theory, evidence-based practices such as ACT, DBT, and PE, as well as non-normative forms of healing. I am energized by joining with my clients to support them in propelling themselves towards their goals, discovering self-awareness and self-love, and finding meaning in their lives.

What brings me joy?

Connecting with nature, staying spiritually grounded and aligned with my values, spending time with loved ones, deep and hearty laughter, and a good sound system.

Denise Banks-Williams,
Family Mediator

Before pursuing my doctorate in clinical psychology at the PGSP-Stanford PsyD Consortium, I earned a M.A. in Infant Mental Health at Mills College.  I love working with people, particularly those with marginalized identities and unique perspectives. I find helping children and families gain more compassion for themselves and each other both fulfilling and fun. My primary therapeutic approach is Compassion Focused Therapy, which integrates aspects of CBT, mindfulness, and attachment theory.

What brings me joy?

I strive to build authentic therapeutic relationships with those I work with to support their healing, growth, and well-being.
